Endeavour Snaps Up McLaren Vale Winery

The Endeavour Group – Australia’s leading drinks and hospitality business – has acquired Shingleback Wine in McLaren Vale from the founders Kym and John Davey.

“We are thrilled to add Shingleback to our Paragon Wine Estates as part of our strategy to grow our premium wine portfolio,” says Paul Walton, director of Endeavour Group’s Pinnacle Drinks arm.

“Shingleback Wine has been producing beautifully rich and full-flavoured wines for 25 years, and we look forward to continuing to offer it to wine lovers in Australia and around the world as part of Paragon Wine Estates.”

Other brands in the rapidly-expanding Paragon Wine Estates portfolio include Oakridge Wines (Yarra Valley), Chapel Hill (McLaren Vale), Krondorf (Barossa Valley), Riddoch (Coonawarra), Josef Chromy Wines (Tasmania) and Isabel Estate (Marlborough, NZ).

Shingleback won the Jimmy Watson Memorial Trophy in 2006 and, most recently, four trophies at the 2022 Sydney Royal Wine Show.

The acquisition includes the Shingleback brand portfolio, a long-term lease of the McLaren Vale cellar door and an ongoing grape supply agreement.

Endeavour Group has more than 28,000 team members.

Its brands includes Dan Murphy’s and BWS as well as the nation’s largest portfolio of hotels, including many Australian icons such as Brisbane’s Breakfast Creek Hotel and Melbourne’s Young & Jackson Hotel.

The company has more than 2,000 retail stores and hotels across Australia.

From its genesis in 1998, when the first wine (Shingleback Shiraz) was released under the Shingleback label, the Shingleback portfolio has grown into a collection of fine wines that include Shingleback, The Bio Project, Red Knot and The Gate.
