A truck carrying winegrapes has been involved in an horrific crash on Kangaroo Island, killing the young driver.

The truck left the road near Christmas Cove at Penneshaw this morning and crashed down an embankment, flipping onto rocks.

The trailer and the load of winegrapes and harvest bins ended up in the ocean.

“The driver and sole occupant, a 27-year-old man from Kangaroo Island, sadly died at the scene,” South Australia Police say.

“Major Crash attended the scene and the investigations into the circumstances surrounding the crash are continuing.”

The man, Mitchell Clark, was an employee of False Cape Wines, according to The Advertiser.

His partner, Georgia Weatherspoon, described Mitchell as the love of her life and “the most beautiful soul”.

False Cape Wines posted on Facebook, “We are saddened by the tragic accident this morning.

“Our hearts go out to family and friends.

“The cellar door will be closed today.”

Vintage has been in full swing across South Australia including on Kangaroo Island.

Anyone who witnessed the crash or saw the truck travelling in the area is asked to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or online at www.crimestopperssa.com.au.

The Transport Department has warned mariners to navigate with caution in the area and report any navigation danger or floating objects.

The crash follows a terrible weekend on Barossa roads with two people killed in separate crashes in less than 24 hours.

WBM – Australia’s Wine Business Magazine extends our sincere condolences to the family and friends of the victim.
