An Hour With Brendan Carter

There is no ‘I’ in Brendan Carter.

When offered a moment in WBM’s ‘Hour With’ spotlight, the 34-year-old Unico Zelo co-founder is adamant he can’t grace the proverbial podium solo.

He wants his Wine For The People television show co-hosts Noah Ward and Henry Doyle beside him.

As animated conversation unfolds in the production studio they share in the small Adelaide Hills town of Gumeracha, it’s clear to see (and hear) why.

The mayhem that unfolds is gloriously refreshing, uplifting, brutally honest and bright.

The action happens in a custom-built room above the converted 1920s industrial cold store (turned-tasting space) home to Applewood Distillery (dedicated to small batch spirits made with native ingredients) and their Unico Zelo wine brand, founded in 2012, for which Laura Carter is chief winemaker.

She and the team make Unico Zelo’s interesting, playful, sustainable wines and champion Mediterranean varieties, most of which are grown in the Riverland, Langhorne Creek and Adelaide Hills.
