MMAD Vineyard Chenin Blanc 2021 was crowned Best Chenin Blanc of Australia and Best 2022-2021 Chenin Blanc at the 2022 Australian Chenin Blanc Challenge Awards, part of the Swan Valley Wine Show.
The Best Mature Chenin Blanc 2018 And Older was won by John Kosovich Swan Valley Chenin Blanc 2018.
The MMAD Vineyard Chenin Blanc ($48) is the first vintage of the new McLaren Vale wine.
Winemaker Adam Wadewitz says, “It’s hard to imagine a better season for the first season for the MMAD Vineyard team.
“Mild ripening conditions gave us Chenin Blanc with bright acidity and plenty of flavour.
“How incredible to have this backed by the win of not only one, but two top trophies.”
MMAD Vineyard partner David LeMire MW adds, “It is wonderful to see the producers from Western Australia leading the charge to share the great potential of Chenin Blanc.”
Located in the dress circle of Blewitt Springs, MMAD Vineyard was first planted in 1939 and has Chenin Blanc plantings from 1964.
The 18ha vineyard has a combination of sand, ironstone and cooling winds that gives both perfume and structure to the wines.
The MMAD Vineyard is planted to Chenin Blanc, Grenache and Shiraz.
The Australian Chenin Blanc Challenge also awarded gold medals to Cape Grace Margaret River Chenin Blanc 2022 and Aravina Estate A Collection Margaret River Chenin 2021.
