Hill-Smith wine family in ownership change

Robert Hill-Smith and his family have purchased the share of the wine company owned by his brother and co-partner Sam Hill-Smith to become outright owners of Hill-Smith Family Estates.

Informal discussions between the brothers have been taking place for some time culminating in an agreement between them last month.

“This purchase reflects our belief in our foundation assets built through six generations since 1849 and the long-term health for the world of fine wine as part of a sociable global lifestyle and culture,” says Robert Hill-Smith.

“The wine community is in a world of pain and those challenges pervade the global wine media on an almost daily basis.

“In any case, I hope this news points to our cautious optimism for the future of wine in society and our commitment to ensuring we are a sustainable participant in the industry for generations to come.

“We have great assets not the least of which is our people.

“We have a very clear vision and aspirations for our vineyard estates, winemaking, brand equity folio and national distribution brands and this has encouraged us to take the dive into full ownership of Yalumba and HSFE.

“We have been here a long time, and I am sure future generations of our family will ensure we are for a lot longer.

“We love what we do!”
