Masters of Wine to head to Adelaide for 2022 Symposium

Media release

The Institute of Masters of Wine (IMW) has announced that Adelaide will host its next international Symposium in June 2022.

The announcement was made at the closing ceremony of the Institute’s 9th international Symposium, ‘Living Wine’ in Logrono, Spain.

The four-day event in Australia will be co-hosted by Wine Australia, and will be the Institute’s 10th such event – an unparalleled opportunity to network, taste and learn about wine from a rich variety of international speakers. The Symposia are usually attended by around 450 participants.

Andreas Clark, CEO of Wine Australia said, “We’re thrilled to be hosting the world of wine in Adelaide in 2022 and look forward to showcasing Australia’s diverse and thriving wine scene, and our enviable epicurean culture.

“Australia’s creativity, passion and focus on innovation makes it the perfect destination to inspire leaders in wine and help shape the future of the industry.”

Adrian Garforth MW, the vice-chairman of the Institute said, “The IMW Symposium is the most important event for the Institute every four years and that’s not just because we invite other experts to discuss challenges, innovations and trends, but also because we relish the chance to meet and re-meet hundreds of friends and colleagues from across the international wine world.”

Jane Masters MW, the Institute’s chairman, knows Australia can deliver an exceptional wine experience.

“I was one of a large group of Masters of Wine who visited Australia two years ago, and we are still talking about the extraordinary hospitality we received, and are also still remembering and discussing the diverse wines we tasted. It will be fascinating to see the evolution of Aussie wines since then.”

Adelaide is a gateway to 18 distinctive, world-renowned wine regions and more than 200 cellar doors within an hour’s drive of the city. There will also be opportunities for regions beyond South Australia to engage with visitors to the Symposium.

Previous symposia have been held in Napa, Bordeaux and Florence.
