Maxwell Wines in McLaren Vale has bought another winery in the region, Fox Creek Wines.
The purchase does include the Fox Creek cellar door on Malpas Road which will close and be sold separately.
Fox Creek Wines – established in 1984 by Jim and Helen Watts – was bought by wine industry identities Jock Harvey, Ben Gibson and Dim Georgiadis in 2020.
The business went into voluntary administration in October last year owing about $10 million.
Maxwell Wines general manager Jeremy Maxwell says the acquisition is not just about expanding its portfolio – but preserving the future of McLaren Vale.
“We’ve always believed that the strength of this region lies in its people, its land, and its legacy,” Jeremy said.
“Fox Creek Wines is a brand with deep roots here, and we’re proud to help ensure it remains in McLaren Vale hands.
“Our intention is to honour the history of the brand and continue to make their signature wines true to style.”
“While the acquisition is a step to continuing the brand’s traditions, it also has a focus on reinvesting in the community.”
