McLaren Vale winery collapses into liquidation

Simon Hackett Wines in McLaren Vale has collapsed into liquidation.

This follows ATO action and a lease dispute between Simon Hackett and a related weddings company, according to a report in The Advertiser.

“The winemaking arm of Simon Hackett’s McLaren Vale empire is being wound up following the veteran winemaker’s retirement,” the newspaper says.

“Mr Hackett brought his winemaking days to an end in September following more than 50 years in the industry.

“His company, Simon Hackett Wines, has now been placed into liquidation following a winding up application brought by the Australian Taxation Office.

“It follows an agreement between Mr Hackett and a related company, Simon Hackett Weddings, over a lease dispute at the businessman’s McLaren Vale estate.”

Liquidator Matthew Ormsby from SV Partners said, “At this stage I only know of a debt owing to the ATO but I don’t know the value owing.”

Simon grew up in the Barossa and worked for Saltram Winery at Angaston.

He moved to McLaren Vale and established Simon Hackett Wines in 1984.
