Olivia Hoffmann Barry is the new chairperson of the Clare Valley Wine & Grape Association (CVWGA).
A respected leader within the Australian wine industry and a passionate advocate for the Clare Valley, Olivia brings more than 15 years of experience in brand strategy, international market development and regional tourism to the role.
Her appointment comes at a pivotal time for the region as it continues to strengthen its reputation for world-class premium wines while embracing innovation, sustainability and immersive tourism experiences.
“The Clare Valley is a world away from the everyday, not only because of our beautiful landscape, but because of our people,” Olivia says.
“We are a region defined by authenticity, resilience and a shared commitment to excellence.
“I’m honoured to step into the role of chair and to work alongside our growers, winemakers and regional partners to ensure the Clare Valley continues to thrive, both as a premium wine region and as a place people feel deeply connected to.”
As marketing director for Jim Barry Wines, Olivia has overseen branding, communications, packaging and promotional strategy across domestic and export markets, helping to shape the global perception of one of the Clare Valley’s most recognised wine families.
Her early market immersions in the United States and United Kingdom in 2010 strengthened her international perspective before she joined the Clare-based team full time.
In 2016, she completed her Master of Wine Business at the University of Adelaide, further deepening her strategic expertise in the evolving wine landscape.
Beyond the winery, Olivia manages Jim Barry Boutique Accommodation, expanding the family brand’s presence within the region’s tourism sector and strengthening the vital connection between wine, place and visitor experience.
Olivia has served three two-year terms on the CVWGA Board, including two as vice chair, and has represented the Clare Valley on the South Australian Wine Industry Association (SAWIA) Executive Committee since 2019.
A past chair of SAWIA’s Marketing and Industry Development Committee, she continues to contribute to state-wide strategy and advocacy on behalf of South Australian wine producers.
CVWGA executive officer Cherry Stowman welcomed the appointment, noting Olivia’s longstanding contribution to the Association and the broader industry.
“Olivia combines strategic insight with genuine regional understanding,” Cherry says.
“She understands our export markets, our tourism opportunity and the importance of collective storytelling.
“Her leadership and advocacy will help guide the Clare Valley into its next chapter, one that builds on our heritage while confidently embracing the future.”
Olivia is an active member of the Sevenhill SACWA and serves as vice chair of the Board at St Joseph’s School.
She and her husband Tom live on their small vineyard property at Spring Farm with their two daughters.
As chairperson Olivia says she will focus on strengthening industry collaboration, enhancing national and international visibility, and continuing to position the Clare Valley as one of Australia’s most distinctive and compelling wine regions.
“Where stunning landscapes inspire and a vibrant culture of elegant wines, delicious food and genuine hospitality create lasting connections.”
