The Vestey Group in the UK is selling its prestigious winery The Lane Vineyard in the Adelaide Hills.
The Edwards family established The Lane and the Vestey Group invested in the property, eventually buying out the family in 2011.
Warrick Duthy, the Vestey Group’s contact in Australia, says the business has never been in better shape and that it’s the right time to sell.
“They haven’t wanted to sell The Lane until they felt it was firing on all cylinders,” he says.
“The Vestey family feel they’ve got to the point where there’s not much more they can do to help growth.
“It’s time for someone else to take it to the next level through synergy.
“They care about the business, they care about the brand and more importantly they care about the people working in the business.”
Warrick says The Lane is a great business with an “outstanding team”, strong relationships with customers and a wine club many other wineries would love to have.
“It’s a beautiful asset,” Warrick says. “It’s humming.
“The Vestey family are really proud of what they’ve been able to assist The Lane to do since 2011 and they’re incredibly proud of the outstanding management team.”
Established in 1993, the property is 58.35 hectares including 42 hectares of vineyards.
The Lane has national distribution with Oatley Fine Wine Merchants and key retailers including Dan Murphy’s and BWS.
It is a substantial supplier to Qantas with Lois sparkling served on domestic and international routes.
The Vestey Group is also exiting its other Australian winery, Delatite in the Upper Goulburn, which it bought before it invested in The Lane.
The Lane is at least the fourth Hills winery to come on the market this year, joining ArtWine, Anderson Hill and Hahndorf Hill.
