Mr Riggs celebrates 20 years of giving back

Mr. Riggs Wine Co. from McLaren Vale is celebrating 20 years of supporting the Flinders Foundation through its annual The Gaffer Month campaign.

Since 2006, The Gaffer Shiraz has worn its pink cap to acknowledge the partnership with the Flinders Foundation and their fight against cancer.

During August the proceeds from one bottle of every dozen of The Gaffer sold is donated to the Flinders Foundation, helping fund vital medical research, patient care and life-changing health initiatives across South Australia.

Created by founder and winemaker Ben Riggs, The Gaffer has become one of Mr. Riggs’ flagship wines and a symbol of the winery’s longstanding commitment to giving back to the community.

“Supporting the Flinders Foundation has been part of who we are for the past 20 years,” says Ben.

“One of my dear friends and employees, Kim ‘Kimbo’ Pilkington suggested we strike up a partnership with the Flinders Foundation.

“I loved the whole concept of what they did and being able to support them has been very rewarding.”

Kim, who had throat cancer, died in 2012 and Mr Riggs has continued to support the foundation in her memory.

“We’re incredibly proud to have donated over $300,000 to help fund the important work the Flinders Foundation does for patients, families and medical research across South Australia.”

The Gaffer Shiraz is recognised for its rich dark fruit, generous palate and unmistakable McLaren Vale character.

Fruit for The Gaffer is sourced from five vineyards: Martins, Gateway, John Rivers, Tim Hunts and Piebald Gully.

They are all in different sub-regions of McLaren Vale, from the earliest picked vineyards to the coolest, latest picked vineyards.

Blending the sub-regions together brings out the best of the variety and is key to the iconic Gaffer style.

The Gaffer Month runs throughout August with special promotions across both on-premise venues and participating bottle shops and retailers.
