Historic Tollana Wines will be revived after Sword Distribution bought the brand from Treasury Wine Estates.
TWE confirmed the sale to WBM tonight.
It comes just a week after TWE announced the sale of the Seppelt Great Western winery and Seppelt brand to Aaron Drummond from Stonier and co-investors.
“The distributor, headed by Giuseppe Minissale, Daryl Fisher and Hiep Le, has begun speaking with South Australian winemakers and members of the trade about the relaunch,” The Shout says.
“Its plans include new releases under the Bin TR16 Shiraz and Bin TR222 Cabernet Sauvignon names.”
Minissale told The Shout that negotiations with TWE were “relatively straightforward”.
“When we heard Treasury Wine Estates were looking to offload a number of wine brands, the three of us got together and said ‘why not give it a go?’.”
Tollana was a popular South Australian wine brand in the 1980s and 1990s.
It was acquired by Penfolds in 1987 and ended up in the TWE portfolio.
TWE announced in June that it would reduce its portfolio of 76 brands to less than 30 over time.
The Redman family bought the famous Coonawarra wine brand Rouge Homme from TWE in May.
