Another export licence cancelled

By Thursday 25 July 2024No Comments

Wine Australia has cancelled the export licence held by Alex Russell Wines Pty Ltd.

This is the second wine export licence cancelled in six weeks.

And the ninth time in ten years that Wine Australia has suspended or cancelled a licence.

It follows the cancellation in June of the export licence held by Jindalee Road Wines  operating out of the Murray Darling.

Wine Australia says its Label Integrity Program investigation found that Jindalee Road Wines had failed to meet its record-keeping obligations established by the Wine Australia Act 2013.

No reason has been given for Alex Russell Wines’ licence being cancelled.

Wine cannot be exported from Australia without an export licence issued by Wine Australia.

“There are no concerns about health or safety for consumers of the wine,” Wine Australia says in a statement.

Alex Russell Wines Pty Ltd may make an application to the Administrative Appeals Tribunal for review of this decision in accordance with the Administrative Appeals Tribunal Act 1975.

“Separately, Russell & Suitor Wines Pty Ltd’s application for an export licence was refused by Wine Australia,” the statement says.

“Russell & Suitor Wines Pty Ltd may make an application to the Administrative Appeals Tribunal for review of this decision in accordance with the Administrative Appeals Tribunal Act 1975.

“Wine Australia is not able to comment further as this matter is subject to an ongoing investigation.”
