The 2025 Barossa Wine Auction held last week at Peter Lehmann Wines’ Old Redemption Cellar in Tanunda has once again demonstrated the global allure and collectability of Barossa wines.
Collectors and enthusiasts gathered to bid on an array of rare and distinguished wines, resulting in an impressive $184,493 (including 18 percent buyers premium) worth of sales across the 33 lots on offer.
The Barossa Wine Auction was complemented by a lunch attended by more than 150 people.
“With 33 stunning lots on display and up for grabs, both bidding numbers and hammer prices far exceeded expectations,” said Michael Anderson from Langtons.
“These incredible results underline the Barossa’s importance in both the Australian and international wine trade and the strength of these wines in the secondary market.”
One of many highlights of the auction was the sale of a 10 bottle collection featuring Henschke Hill of Grace (2005-2010) and Henschke Mount Edelstone (2005-2010), which sold for $30,680 (including 18 percent buyers premium).
Other highlights:
• Penfolds 2016 Bin 111A Clare Barossa Shiraz 6L Imperial – $41,300 including 18 percent buyers premium.
• A 12 bottle vertical of Rockford Basket Press Shiraz (2010-2021) presented in a bespoke wooden display –$21,240 including buyers premium.
• An Eden Valley Riesling Collection of 48 bottles – $7,198 including buyers premium.
Barossa Australia CEO Scott Hazeldine said, “The strength of this year’s auction lies not only in the exceptional results but in the spirit of collaboration that underpins it.
“From iconic houses to small family-run estates, Barossa producers came together to showcase the best of our region to the world.
“The success of the 2025 auction highlights the enduring appeal and value of Barossa wine, and it’s incredibly rewarding to see collectors respond so enthusiastically.
“We’re grateful to all who contributed – bidders, wineries, partners and our passionate community.”
A portion of the net proceeds from the auction will be directed to the Barossa Australia Wellbeing Fund.
Administered by Foundation Barossa, this fund aims to provide active support for members of the Barossa wine and grapegrowing community affected by mental health challenges.
The 2025 Barossa Wine Auction season will continue with a live event in Sydney, in partnership with Langtons, scheduled for Tuesday 10 June.
