Salena Estate in the Riverland – one of Australia’s biggest wineries – has been put up for sale.

“It’s time to ease back a bit and slow things down a bit,” managing director Bob Franchitto, 64, told The Advertiser.

Salena Estate, established in 1998, produces about 10,000 tonnes of wine each year, about 70 percent of which has been exported.

Included in the sale are 191.5 hectares of vineyards.

“Half our vineyards are certified organic – we’ve probably got one of the largest, if not the largest, holdings of organic Shiraz and Cabernet,” Bob said.

Other assets include a cellar door, restaurant, bottlling line, a distillery and a residence.

The winery is named after Bob and Sylvia Franchitto’s daughter, Salena.

The property is being sold through Colliers Agribusiness.
