Bird in Hand 2024 Release

Adelaide Hills-based winery Bird in Hand has introduced two new labels – the Tasmanian Series and Tasmanian Reserve Series.

The wines include Tasmanian Series Riesling 2024 ($35), Tasmanian Series Nouveau Pinot Noir 2024 ($35) and Tasmanian Reserve Series Pinot Noir 2024 ($50).

Andrew Nugent, who co-founded Bird in Hand in 1997 with wife Susie, says the Tasmanian wines represent a bold new chapter for the winery.

“This marks an exciting chapter, bringing our team’s craftsmanship to the outstanding grapegrowing conditions, winemaking excellence and artistic passion of Tasmania, while preserving our dedication to producing world-class premium wines from the magnificent Adelaide Hills,” he says.

Senior winemaker Sarah Burvill adds, “These wines reflect the rugged wilderness of Tasmania and its ability to produce wines of exceptional purity and elegance.

“With the inaugural releases, we’ve focused on highlighting the clarity of the fruit and the distinct character of the region, creating wines that capture the unique flavours and complexity of Tasmania’s terroir.”

The launch coincides with Bird in Hand’s announcement to lead the hospitality offerings at the Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens in Hobart.

This includes an on-site restaurant inspired by the flagship LVN Restaurant in Woodside in the Adelaide Hills, scheduled to open last this year.

“Bird in Hand will also oversee weddings and events across the gardens’ stunning grounds, bringing its signature approach to impeccable service and generous hospitality, underscored by its reputation for producing fine Australian wine,” Andrew says.

The Tasmanian will initially be offered to members of the Bird in Hand Flight Club, which can be joined through an online application.

The wines will be featured at select hospitality venues of the Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens, with the Riesling and Reserve Series Pinot Noir also available by the glass at LVN Restaurant.

Bird in Hand announced it was expanding its vineyard holdings into Tasmania in 2021, acquiring a pristine stretch of coastline at Seymour on the east coast.

In July last year the winery announced that it had signed a long-term lease on a 10.1 hectare vineyard at Rowella in the West Tamar region of Tasmania.
