Baldwin Distilling Co is one of Australia’s newest distilleries specialising in American style bourbon (they have to call it whiskey).
The company was founded to challenge America’s unfair share of Australia’s large bourbon market… and supply the owner, Anthony Baldwin, with his favourite drink!
Located in Canberra, they have on their doorstep the best Australian barley, rye and corn, along with water from the nearby Cotter River of which the chemical makeup is near identical to the limestone-heavy water of Tennessee and Kentucky. You could call it a ‘Distillers Dream’.
KSD were involved from the beginning and developed a contemporary brand mark that retained links to tradition and allowed for application in many ways from bottle etching to iron branding onto barrels. Packaging design followed for a range of whiskey’s, Moonshine and RTD cans.
“Creating a start-up has its challenges for both client and designer, but forming a partnership from the beginning and being prepared to take ‘the crunchy with the smooth’ along the way has its end rewards,” Karin Says says.
“Their Apple Pie Moonshine recently won a gold gong at the American Distilling Awards, which is a pretty nice coup for Baldwin up against the big guys.”
