Australian Test cricketer Travis Head has released a new range of wines in collaboration with Bleasdale Vineyards in Langhorne Creek.
The Travis Head Collection features six wines – a Sauvignon Blanc, an Adelaide Hills Chardonnay, a Rosé, a Malbec Carignan Grenache (MCG) blend, a Grenache and a Shiraz.
“Cricket has taken me all over the world, but my heart will always be in South Australia,” wine lover Travis says on the website.
“Partnering with Bleasdale to create this wine is something I’m truly proud of – it reflects my roots, my passion and the importance of celebrating moments with the people who matter most.”
Travis was involved in every step of the winemaking process.
The label features an image of Travis in typical celebratory pose with his bat and helmet raised after another milestone at the crease.
The Travis Head Collection continues a long tradition of Australian cricketers getting involved in the wine industry.
Perhaps the most famous example is the highly awarded Ponting Wines by former Australian captain Ricky Ponting.
Travis Head’s Australian teammate Alex Carey is one of the new investors in Bethany Wines in the Barossa.
The late cricket legend Shane Warne also had his own range of wines.
Other famous wine buffs include the late Rod Marsh and legendary fast bowler Dennis Lillee.
Bleasdale has had a cricket-themed wine in its portfolio for years – Second Innings Malbec whose label features an old photograph of Frank Potts II taking part in a family game of cricket on the Bleasdale property.
Travis – who grew up in Gawler in the Barossa Valley – will play for Australia against England in the upcoming Ashes series.
His aggressive batting has made him a cult figure among cricket fans the world over.
