Henschke won the 67 Pall Mall Golden Vines Best Fine Wine Producer in the Rest of the World at the 2024 Golden Vines Awards Gala at the Palacio Cibeles in Madrid.
Sixth-generation winemaker and viticulturist Johann Henschke received the award.
“I am truly delighted to accept this award on behalf of everyone at Henschke,” he said.
“It’s humbling to stand among so many talented peers.
“This recognition means the world to us, and it’s a testament to the dedication and passion of the current custodians, Stephen and Prue, and our entire team at Henschke, from the vineyards to the cellars, who share our beliefs, and have helped our family to care for our special vineyards and make unique Australian wines, for over 150 years.”
Often referred to as ‘the Oscars of fine wine’, the Golden Vines Awards were established in 2021 to support, honour and celebrate the best of the best in the world of fine wine and rare spirits.
Organised by Liquid Icons, the Golden Vines features a weekend of wine and spirit tastings, masterclasses, Michelin-starred gastronomy, award ceremonies, live auction in partnership with Sotheby’s raising funds for The Gérard Basset Foundation, performances from world class talent and money-can’t-buy experiences.
A record 1,200 top fine wine professionals from more than 100 countries – including 68 Masters of Wine and 29 Master Sommeliers – participated in this year’s awards.
The results were independently verified by Deloitte LLP, in accordance with the voting rules published on Liquid Icons website.
“It is with great excitement that we honour the remarkable excellence in wines and spirits, and the dedicated individuals and supporters driving the industry forward, through the 2024 Golden Vines Awards,” said Lewis Chester DipWEST, co-founder and CEO of Liquid Icons, the fine wine research and content production company founded by Lewis and his friend, the late Gérard Basset OBE MW MS.
Each winner was awarded a trophy designed by the visionary Spanish multi-disciplinary artist Nuria Mora, created under the guidance of The Trophy Creative Director Shantell Martin.
Inspired by the meticulous craftsmanship involved in both art and winemaking, the trophy was presented in a custom trunk made by Gucci, a sponsor of the awards.
Guests were treated to Michelin-starred cuisine curated by the culinary geniuses behind Catalonia’s three Michelin-starred El Celler de Can Roca.
Fine wines and spirits served include Dom Pérignon Rose 2008 (en Magnum), Dom Pérignon Plénitude 2 2006, Le Petit Cheval Blanc 2020 (en Magnum), Tenuta dell’Ornellaia 2006 (en Magnum), Marques de Murrieta 1980 (en Magnum), Château d’Yquem 1983 and Gonzalez Byass Palo Cortado (Golden Vines Barrel Select).
