Rich reward for One Pound Per Acre

The Randall Wine Group has won an Elsie Award in Canada for Best New Product Launch in Wines and Vintages at the 2024 LCBO (Liquor Control Board of Ontario) annual awards.

It was for the One Pound Per Acre brand, distributed by Ontario based Dionysus Wines and Spirits.

Randall Wine Group executive chairman Warren Randall says he is elated that an Australian wine is once again back in the spotlight in the Canadian market.

“The Canadian market is a very supportive and important market for Australian wine,” he says.

“It is currently our fifth-largest export market and this prestigious Elsie Award will ensure that Australian wine remains front and centre in Canada.

“The province of Ontario sells approximately 40 percent of Canada’s total retail wine sales and is a significant influencer on other provinces like British Columbia and Alberta, so word of the award will spread from east to west.”

The One Pound Per Acre brand has its origins from back in 1850, when Seppeltsfield’s founder Joseph Seppelt bought his first 80 acres of land in the Barossa Valley for £80.

The range is represented by a Chardonnay and a Shiraz.

“The wines represent excellent value for money because both wines overdeliver on quality,” Randall says.

“It is important that Australian wines are once again seen as representing exceptional value for money on the international market, because that was our springboard for success of Australian wines in the golden period of the 1990s.”

The Randall Wine Group was established in 1978 by Warren Randall.

It is Australia’s largest private luxury vineyard holder spanning more than 9,230 acres, together with an expanding portfolio of luxury wine brands including Seppeltsfield from the Barossa as well as Penny’s Hill and Gemtree Organic Wines from McLaren Vale.

This year was the 30th anniversary of the Elsie Awards, held at the Liberty Grand Exhibition Place in Toronto.
