Adelaide Hills winery Shaw + Smith has been named Matthew Jukes’ Winery of the Year in London.

The announcement was made at Stoke Lodge, the official residence of His Excellency The Honourable Stephen Smith, Australian High Commissioner to the United Kingdom – who was in attendance.

Each year, wine critic Matthew Jukes unveils his 100 Best Australian Wines in London.

As one of the world’s leading experts on Australian wine, Matthew’s list showcases the finest Australian wines available on UK shelves for the year ahead and is designed as a balanced, modern collection representing all styles, regions and price points.

Shaw + Smith has two wines in Top 100 – Shaw + Smith 2025 Sauvignon Blanc and Lenswood Vineyard 2023 Pinot Noir both selected.

Winery co-founder Michael Hill-Smith AM MW said, “Matthew Jukes has been doing important missionary work for Australian wine in the UK for years, so to be named his Winery of the Year is truly exciting – there has never been a better time to drink Australian wine than now.

“We must also thank David Gleave MW and the team at Liberty Wines for our success in the UK – they have been a fantastic partner for us.”

Shaw + Smith was established in 1989 by cousins Michael Hill-Smith MW and Martin Shaw, producing exciting, refined wines exclusively from the Adelaide Hills, that reflect the site and climate.

Michael and Martin have built a formidable team including Master of Wine and joint CEO David LeMire and chief winemaker and joint CEO Adam Wadewitz.

Matthew’s influence in the wine world is widely recognised.

He has been awarded the International Wine & Spirit Competition’s Wine Communicator of the Year trophy and was named Honorary Australian of the Year in the UK at the 2012 Australia Day Foundation Gala Dinner.
