McHenry Hohnen was the star of the Sanector Wine Show of Western Australia, picking up four trophies.
They took home the Best Wine of Show, Best Red Wine of Show and Best Shiraz for their McHenry Hohnen 2019 Hazel’s Vineyard Syrah Roussanne. They also won Best Other Red Varietal for their McHenry Hohnen 2021 Tempranillo.
Cherubino Wines won Most Successful Exhibitor Overall. It also won the JS Gladstones Trophy for Best and Most Distinctive Regional Character, Best Riesling and Best White Wine of the Great Southern for the Cherubino Laissez Faire 2022 Riesling.
Cherubino also won Best Aged Riesling for Cherubino 2018 Porongorup Riesling and Best Sweet Wine Trophy for Cherubino The Yard 2018 Cane Cut Gewürtztraminer.
The 45th Wine Show of WA was held on Friday with a gala trophy presentation dinner in Albany.
The first wine competition was part of the Mt Barker & District Agricultural Society held in 1978 with a total of six classes, 32 entries, two sponsored trophies, two judges and one steward.
Fast forward to 2022 and the 45th wine show had 805 entries, 37 classes, one chief Judge, 15 judges and nine stewards pouring wines, 23 classes and 21 sponsors.
Of the 805 entries, 551 wines were awarded medals and 83 were gold.
