The Clausen family from Skillogalee Estate has bought The Rising Sun Hotel in Auburn.

“As its new custodians, the team behind Skillogalee Estate are thrilled to bring to this iconic pub their deep connection to the region and a commitment to celebrating its people, produce and places,” Simon Clausen says.

“We love Auburn, the Clare Valley and the community that makes this region so special.

“The Rising Sun has always been a community meeting place.

“We’re really looking forward to honouring that and creating a warm, generous and local experience built on great food and drink, and great company.”

The poker machines will be removed from the pub, which was established in 1870.

Simon says that when it reopens, The Rising Sun will offer a “revitalised take on the classic country pub”.

“Delicious, honest fare made with fresh seasonal produce sourced from South Australia’s exceptional growers,” he says.

The Rising Sun will temporarily close while the front bar is given a light refurbishment and essential upgrades are made.

The front bar will reopen first, with the back dining room and accommodation to follow.

The drinks list will showcase the Clare Valley’s outstanding wineries, alongside a rotating tap of South Australian-only beers, anchored by Coopers.

The Rising Sun will be run by the same team behind Skillogalee.

The kitchen will be overseen by executive chef Dan Moss, known for his locavore approach and strong ties to the region.

Executive hospitality manager Priscila Cunha will be responsible for front of house.

Operations across both venues will be led by general manager Guy Parkinson.
