Giles Cooke MW from Thistledown Wines says he will continue to “beat the drum for Australian wine” – and particularly Grenache – across the globe and build on their sales to 25 countries.
He was speaking after buying UK-based parent company Alliance Wine Group‘s shareholding in Thistledown and New Zealand brand, Earthsong.
“I guess there’s never going to be a good time to buy a wine company, but the head winds at the present time are pretty strong,” says Giles, who worked for Alliance for thirty years.
“That said, I’m confident that we can continue to grow and to thrive given our distinctive wines, effective storytelling and marketing centric approach.
Giles will be joined on the next stage of the Thistledown journey by Paddy Gilhooly who has worked with Thistledown since 2014 and is a director and shareholder.
Laura Samson, who has primarily been supporting marketing, will now take on a broader role in marketing and operations.
The team will be putting a lot of effort into another brand, Our Fathers.
“We will also be scaling up our not-for-profit project called Our Fathers as we try to enrich lives through wine,” Giles says.
“Our Fathers will donate meaningful amounts of money to predominantly mental health charities in both Australia and UK.”
Alliance will continue to distribute the wines in the UK and Ireland.
