
Matt Woo has joined Cooperages 1912 Australia – a subsidiary of Independent Stave Company – as oak barrel consultant and winemaker.
He will represent the entire Cooperages 1912 Australia portfolio of leading wine barrel brands including Tonnellerie Tremeaux, Tonnellerie Quintessence, Maison Moussié, Heinrich Cooperage and World Cooperage.
With more than 15 years of winemaking experience at Penfolds, Matt brings a wealth of industry expertise, most recently in red winemaking in Australia and China.
Matt has also overseen barrel selection and maturation planning across a broad range of regions and varietals.
He has worked in Victoria, South Australia and Western Australia and in international markets.
“Matt’s blend of technical winemaking experience and customer-facing communication makes him an exceptional fit for our team,” says Cooperages 1912 general manager Mark Roberts.

Matt will work closely with wineries across Australia to provide tailored barrel solutions that support quality and innovation in winemaking.
His territory includes South Australia (Adelaide Hills, Barossa Valley, Clare Valley and Langhorne Creek), Victoria, Queensland, New South Wales (except Riverina) and Canberra.
Independent Stave Company is a fourth-generation, family-owned business.
