Dear Anthony,
It was lovely to read ‘and if the wind Is right, you can sail away and find tranquility’ about Sir James (or Jim as he is known in the family). He was one of those lovely people who always seemed to smile, was such a gentleman and had quite a few stories which he used to entertain us all with! As you said in the article, it wasn’t always smooth sailing for Jim especially after his father was killed in the Kyeema air disaster when he was 5, however he went on to achieve so much. He was loved and admired by so many around the world. Indeed, just yesterday I received a message from the Consul General of Monaco offering his condolences. His Excellency had known Jim well and was there in 1983 when Australia II won the America’s Cup. I was lucky enough to meet His Excellency at a Koala Life function up at Cleland a couple of years ago and he was very excited to tell me some stories about the mischief he and Jim used to get up together!
Thank you for the tribute to him.
All the best,
Bec Hardy
