Hat-trick of Halliday wines for Bendigo rosé

By Thursday 21 August 2025No Comments

Sutton Grange Fairbank Rosé from Bendigo has won Best Rosé in the Halliday Wine Companion Awards for the third consecutive year.

“To win once is an honour – but three years in a row is beyond what we ever imagined,” Sutton Grange winemaker Chris Smales says.

“This recognition is a tribute to our vineyard, our team and the unwavering support of our community.

“It proves that our passion and precision can deliver excellence year after year.”

Named after the property’s 19th-century heritage as a famed horse stud, the Fairbank Rosé continues to win over both judges and wine lovers with its vibrant freshness and food-friendly versatility.

Judge Jeni Port praised the 2024 vintage for maintaining “the pretty-as-a-picture salmon-rose hues and flavours that boast serious rosé cred”.

“Following on from the Halliday Wine Companion Rosé of the Year Award for the 22 and 23 vintages, the 24 has big shoes to fill,” she says.

“It doesn’t disappoint”.

The wine is a blend of Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon and Sangiovese with a dash of Viognier.

Chris says the wine delivers lifted spring blossom, musk, cranberry, wild strawberry and cherry as well as  biscuit notes with gentle creaminess.

“It has even, deep flavours balanced by spiciness and a lively acid drive,” he says

Nestled at the foothills of Mount Alexander in Central Victoria, Sutton Grange Winery was founded in 1995 by Peter Sidwell.

To this day, Peter retains ownership and remains deeply committed to producing premium wines that embody the character and integrity of the land.

Guided by a philosophy of minimal intervention and sustainable practices, Sutton Grange has earned a reputation for crafting wines of true distinction and authenticity.
