The Wine Australia board has five new members – Dr Angeline Achariya from Victoria, Roslyn Baker from Queensland, Andrew Kay from South Australia, Elizabeth Riley from NSW and Peta Slack-Smith from Victoria.
They join chair Michele Allan and replace outgoing board members Catherine Oates, Catherine Cooper, Frances-Anne Keeler, Mitchell Taylor and John Lloyd.
Liz Riley, a viticulturist, is well known in the wine industry having served on various committees and runs a business in the Hunter Valley.
She has also served on the board of the Australian Wine Research Institute.
“It’s an honour and a privilege to be appointment to the Wine Australian board,” Liz says.
“I truly hope that I can add valuable industry insights to the board’s discussions and thinking over the coming term.”
Andrew Kay is the CEO of Business SA and former CEO of Wirra Wirra in McLaren Vale.
Peta Slack-Smith describes herself on LinkedIn as “A strategic advisor guiding business, industry and government leaders through times of change, threats to reputation and social licence, new operating environments, and changes in consumer and stakeholder expectations.”
Roslyn Baker is a non-executive director of Plant Health Australia and Eco-Markets Australia.
Dr Angeline Achariya is CEO of Innovation Gamechangers and is a non-executive director of The Australian Institute of Food Science and Technology.
The new appointments were announced by Federal Agriculture Minister Julie Collins on Saturday.
The new directors will serve a three-year term from October 1.
“It is essential that the new board works closely with Australian Grape & Wine to strengthen and encourage profitable, resilient and sustainable winegrape and wine businesses, ensuring that Australian wine is well placed to overcome the current challenges and thrive on both the domestic and international stage,” Australian Grape & Wine chief executive Lee McLean says.
