Windy Creek Estate won six trophies at the 36th Swan Valley Wine Show including the Liquor Barons Trophy for Best Regional Wine of Show with Chenin Blanc 2018.

Their trophy haul also included Best Swan Valley Table Wine of Show with their Chenin Blanc 2021.

“This year marks the 100 year anniversary of my grandfather Ante Cobanov arriving in Australia from Primosten Croatia to start a new life,” Windy Creek owner Tony Cobanov says on Facebook.

“It took 13 years to save up enough money to bring his family to Australia and put a deposit on what is now Windy Creek Estate.

“The Cobanov family worked hard over three generations and now four with my sons to make this property what it is today.

“As the third generation owner I am thrilled to have had the results we had at the Swan Valley Wine Show.

“Again I would like to thank all the many wonderful people who tirelessly dedicate their time to producing not only the best fruit but now some of the best wines in the Swan Valley – 2024 was a tough vintage.

“As I imagine life on this piece of heaven was for my grandfather and father back all those years ago.”

Sandalford won the City of Swan Trophy awarded to the exhibitor whose five or more entries gained the highest average score.

Mandoon Estate won four trophies including Most Successful Producer Trophy for the highest accumulated points overall.

Sittella Museum Silk 2016 won the Alan Dinneen Memorial Trophy as selected by chair of judges Erin Larkin from all of the Swan Valley GI Wines entered in the show.

“This style is one that the Swan Valley executes with unerring class and reliability,” Erin said.

“I love these wines, they bring joy to me, they speak so clearly of place, and this is a place that I am so proud to represent.”

A record 271 wines were entered in the show with 205 medals awarded including 37 gold.

Seventy-six percent of wines received a medal.

The Swan Valley is the oldest wine region in Western Australia and has one of the longest continually operating wine shows in Australia.

The region is celebrating 190 years of winemaking this year, with the first commercial vintage in 1834.
