Two families dominate Langhorne Creek Wine Show

By Friday 9 May 2025No Comments

Two long-established family wineries have dominated this year’s Multi-Color Corporation Langhorne Creek Wine Show, with Bremerton winning Champion Wine of Show and Lake Breeze recognised as Producer of the Year.

Lake Breeze (six trophies) and Bremerton (three) won nine of the ten trophies up for grabs. Lake Breeze’s haul included the Belvidere Winery Trophy for Producer of the Year.

Lake Breeze winemaker Greg Follett’s brother, Tim, the vineyard manager, was also named Peats Soil & Garden Supplies Grapegrower of the Year, recognising his contribution to the region.

Bremerton Wines, headed up by sisters Rebecca and Lucy Willson, and their Bremerton 2023 Coulthard Cabernet Sauvignon was awarded the Vinpac Best Cabernet Sauvignon trophy and ultimately took home the Multi-Color Corporation Champion Wine of Show.

For the second year in a row, Bremerton 2022 Special Release Graciano took out the Jon Burke Creative Digital Video trophy for best red or white made from alternative or other varieties.

The Chair of Judges Trophy went to the W Salter & Son’s 2024 Pepperjack Grenache Rosé.

“While we always expect great Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec and Shiraz from Langhorne Creek, certain white varieties and rosés are also showing great promise,” chair of judges Sue Bell said.

“This year’s Rosé class was particularly strong with several excellent examples of wines with both freshness and complexity, made from a diverse selection of varieties.”

Sue was joined by wine writer Jane Faulkner and Greg Clack from XO Wine Co, as well as associate judges Alexandra Alavoine from Kirrihill and Brett Woodward from Saddler’s Creek.

The awards ceremony on Friday 9 May saw 200 grapegrowers, winemakers, trade, suppliers and winery staff celebrate the Langhorne Creek wine region in a marquee on the lawns of Bleasdale Vineyards.
