Maddie LeMire is the new winemaker for Balnaves of Coonawarra, marking the start of an exciting new chapter for the winery.
She will work closely with Pete Bissell to continue Balnaves’ proud tradition of winemaking excellence.
Maddie has honed her skills in some of the world’s most renowned wine regions including Burgundy, Pomerol and McLaren Vale.
She completed a Bachelor of Viticulture and Oenology at the University of Adelaide.
“I’m delighted to join Balnaves of Coonawarra, an icon of the Australian wine industry,” she says.
“I’m honoured to have this opportunity.”
The Balnaves family including Doug, Kirsty and Peter were excited by the number and quality of applications for the winemaker position and is thrilled to welcome Maddie to the Balnaves of Coonawarra team.
“Maddie’s enthusiasm and passion for the wine industry is a perfect match for Balnaves, on our unwavering quest to produce outstanding wines from the famous Coonawarra region,” the family says.

Established in 1975 by Doug and Annette Balnaves, Balnaves of Coonawarra remains a family-owned company.
Balnaves of Coonawarra specialises in premium Cabernet Sauvignon from their four vineyard sites in the region and also produce award-winning Chardonnay and Shiraz.
The Balnaves of Coonawarra 2021 Tally Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon was listed in the Langtons classification as Outstanding.
The 2021 Shiraz, which will be released in 2025, was named in the 2024 Halliday Wine Companion Top 100 Wines, in the Red Wines Under $50 category.
