When a motley crew of judges gathered in Adelaide for this year’s Drink Easy Awards, Rose Kentish was introduced as the “Swiss army knife of makers.”
Rose found the descriptor amusing, and upon reflection quite apt.
She is a veritable Liquorice Allsorts of skills and interests.
Rose was lead judge of the Non-Alcoholic category but would have been just as comfortable at the helm of spirits or wine.
“I quite like the fact that I can straddle categories because what I’m interested in is flavour and scent and beauty,” she says.
“I don’t really distinguish between a beautiful tart or a gin, a hand cream or a wine.
“I’m just passionate about flavour, scent and where things are sourced from.
“There’s flavour, there’s story, there’s authenticity, and there’s truth in that.”
In addition to running McLaren Vale-based wine brand Rose Kentish Wines, Rose is head of product for The Sparkke Change Beverage Company, the female-led, for-profit social enterprise she and friend Kari Allen founded in 2016.
“At 5am this morning I was taking the head cuts on the spirit run of Sparkke’s Whisky New Make Spirit,” she says.
“When ideas hit, I follow them.”
