Henschke Appoints Senior Winemaker

Gwyneth Olsen is the new senior winemaker at Henschke.

“We are delighted to be welcoming Gwyn into our business and immersing her into our 2022-23 Eden Valley, Barossa Valley and Lenswood growing season and vintage preparations,” says chief winemaker and managing director Stephen Henschke.

“We are looking forward to a high quality 2023 vintage.”

Gwyn says, “I am thrilled to be joining Henschke and looking forward to learning more about the rich history of the Henschke family and their home in the Barossa’s Eden Valley.

“I am excited for the opportunity to continue crafting delicious wines that speak of their time and place from some of Australia’s most iconic and loved vineyard sites.”

Gwyn comes to Henschke with more than 15 years’ winemaking experience from various regions and estates around the world including Villa Maria Estate (Auckland), Chateau La Tour Figeac (Bordeaux), McWilliam’s (Hunter Valley), Domaine Dubreuil-Fontaine (Burgundy), Oakridge (Yarra Valley), Briar Ridge (Hunter Valley) and most recently as head winemaker for Pepper Tree Wines in the Hunter.

Her accolades and achievements include Gourmet Traveller WINE Young Winemaker of the Year 2014, Australian Wine Research Institute Advanced Wine Assessment Course DUX 2014, Len Evans Tutorial Scholar 2016 and Wine Australia Future Leaders 2017.

She is also a judge at regional and national wine shows.

The Henschke team includes chief winemaker Stephen Henschke, winemaker Andy Cummins, assistant winemaker Fraser Armstrong, chief viticulturist Prue Henschke and viticultural technical officer Adam Pietsch.

The Henschke family has been making wine in the Eden Valley since 1868.
