Hither & Yon 2018 Nero D’Avola has won the Bushing Monarch trophy at the McLaren Vale Wine Show.
Brothers and owners of Hither & Yon, Richard and Malcolm Leask are very aware of the significance of the award, the family having been grapegrowers in McLaren Vale since 1979.
“Our 2018 Nero d’Avola has a bright and cool personality, but with subtle structure and a long body – a perfect choice for the lifestyle and food of the McLaren Vale region, made for sharing with family and friends,” says Malcolm.
“Our ‘dirty hands’ approach and ‘real maker’ ethos underlies our philosophy for Hither & Yon, as well as the beautiful natural growing environment that McLaren Vale provides.”
Malcolm emphasises the most important factor in making their wine is the people they surround themselves with.
“We are extremely fortunate to work daily with an amazing group of passionate people, from our vineyard staff, winery team, to our cellar door crew, marketing duet, and also brand partners. Our wine embodies our goal to have fun, but with purpose – enjoy what we do, grow with virtue, be different, and pass it all on to the next generation,” says Malcolm.
The win also caps off a big year for Richard, having been awarded a prestigious Nuffield Scholarship in 2018, sponsored by Wine Australia.
Richard has been travelling the world this year doing farm and trade visits for his study on regenerative agriculture, and feels very proud to represent the McLaren Vale community in receiving the award, continuing to push the message of the regions’ sustainability and diversity in markets.
