New gender equity insights to help wine businesses

By Friday 17 April 2026No Comments

Australian wine businesses now have access to new, sector‑specific insights exploring how gender equity can support stronger innovation, talent retention and business performance, with the release of the Post-CSW70 Insights Report, authored by Jane Thomson OAM.

The report draws on themes from the 70th session of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (CSW70) and translates global gender equity conversations into practical considerations for wine workplaces.

It focuses on what these discussions mean in real industry contexts and how businesses can respond in ways that are relevant, achievable and fit for purpose.

Jane Thomson OAM said the report was written to support wine businesses with clarity and practical perspective, rather than abstract debate.

“Global conversations can feel distant from day-to-day work,” Ms Thomson says.

“What matters is how these ideas show up in real workplaces – in leadership decisions, team culture and the systems we rely on.

“This report is about helping the wine sector connect global context to practical action.”

The Post-CSW70 Insights Report supports the Australian Wine Industry Gender Equity Toolkit, an established, evidence‑based resource developed by Wine Australia and Australian Grape & Wine to support wine businesses of all sizes to strengthen workplace practices over time.

To further explore the Toolkit’s themes and their relevance in current operating conditions, Wine Australia will host Better ideas, stronger teams: the business case for gender equity, an online fireside chat.

The discussion will bring together gender equity thought leaders from across the wine sector to share practical perspectives and experience, including representatives from Australian Women in Wine and Australian Grape and Wine’s Diversity, Equality and Inclusion in Wine Committee.

The session will examine:

• How diverse, people-centred teams support better ideas and innovation,

• Why gender equity practices support attraction, retention and development of talent,

• How inclusive and resilient teams better reflect the customers wine businesses are looking to reach,

• Practical ways businesses and individuals can engage with the Toolkit in their own context.

The session is designed for wine businesses across the value chain, as well as individuals seeking guidance on gender equity practices within their workplace.

It will focus on real-world experience and perspectives, acknowledging the shared challenges facing individuals, businesses and the broader industry.

The webinar will be held online on Tuesday 28 April.
