Women in Wine to mark 10 years of achievements

Australian Women in Wine (AWIW) will be celebrating a decade of achievements this year with a 10th Birthday Gala Night on Saturday 19 July at the National Wine Centre in Adelaide.

It will be held on the eve of the 19th Australian Wine Industry Technical Conference.

The night will be a celebration of a decade dedicated to championing the achievements of women in the Australian wine industry and advocating for gender equality across the sector.

Founder and chair of AWIW, Jane Thomson OAM, who is stepping down from her leadership role after 10 years following the birthday gala, says she is “immensely proud” of the work AWIW has achieved over the last decade.

“When we started in 2015 we had a five year plan because we thought that surely a group like this wouldn’t be needed after that? How wrong we were,” says Ms Thomson.

“But my goodness, what we’ve achieved has been extraordinary!

“From grand showcase events like hosting awards ceremonies that highlighted the talents of our women in wine in London, New York and Sydney, to slogging it out behind the scenes lobbying authorities, we have moved the industry forward for the better.

“And now is the time to come together, celebrate that work and keep the energy moving in the right direction.

“Especially while forces across the world are making diversity and equality goals more difficult than ever.”

Over the past ten years, AWIW has been at the forefront of promoting and supporting women in wine and lobbying for a more gender inclusive Australian wine industry.

The work of AWIW has been done entirely by a group of volunteers who have worked tirelessly to create a better and more diverse wine industry for all.

The 10th Birthday Gala Night aims to honour these contributions, continue the push for gender equality and inspire future generations of women in wine.

The evening will feature keynote speakers and a gourmet dining experience showcasing the talents of female winemakers across Australia.
