Stanton & Killeen 2026 Alvarinho was a highlight of the 138th Rutherglen Wine Show, which incorporated the Australian Fortified Wine Show.
The wine scored 95 points and won two trophies – the John C Brown Memorial Trophy for Best North East Dry White Table Wine (any vintage) and Best Rutherglen Dry White Table Wine (any vintage).
“The highlight of the shows this year were undoubtedly the exciting continuing growth in our Iberian entries,” chair Chris Pfeiffer said.
“Rutherglen, particularly through its growing of fortified varieties, has a long association with Iberian varieties and so it is appropriate that we continue to champion these emerging varieties.”
Chair of judges Russell Cody said, “Pinot Grigio and Sauvignon Blanc were mainly well-made wines, and a great result was in the Iberian varieties – an Alvarinho jagged a gold which was really good to see.”
Stanton & Killeen also won the Chris Killeen Memorial Trophy for Best Australian Vintage Fortified Red with the Stanton & Killeen 2022 Vintage Fortified.
