McLaren Vale winery Wirra Wirra has signed a distribution agreement with North American player Andrew Peller Limited.

This follows its recent landmark deal with the world’s largest family winery, E. & J. Gallo.

Wirra Wirra will enter the portfolio of Andrew Peller Import Agency, the international arm of Andrew Peller Limited – Canada’s largest premium wine producer with nine wineries in British Columbia and Ontario.

Wirra Wirra CEO Matthew Deller MW says, “Our new agency partnership in Canada with Andrew Peller Import Agency is another exciting step as we boldly position ourselves as a globally admired Australian fine wine producer.

“Canadian consumers are among the most engaged and discerning in the world; by aligning ourselves with a great partner like API with incredible resources and capabilities and who share our vision and values, we can share our beautiful McLaren Vale wines with them.”

Glen Galbraith, managing director of Andrew Peller Import Agency, adds, “We are thrilled to extend a warm welcome to the Wirra Wirra family in our portfolio across Canada.

“This partnership presents an exclusive opportunity to introduce customers and wine enthusiasts to the rich history and exceptional wines of Wirra Wirra.

“Collaborating with such an outstanding brand and team is indeed a privilege.

“We are eager to embark on this journey and build Wirra Wirra’s presence across Canada, further solidifying its reputation for excellence.”

Canada is Australia’s fourth-largest export market by value.

Australia ranks fifth among countries of origin in the Canadian market, following Canada, Italy, France and the United States.

The agreement extends to all Canadian provinces except for Quebec, where Wirra Wirra will continue its partnership with Langevins.

First founded in 1894, the family-owned Wirra Wirra is synonymous with McLaren Vale.

The late Richard Gregory Trott brought Wirra Wirra back to prominence in the 1970s.

Chief winemaker Emma Wood leads an all-female winemaking team.

Wirra Wirra’s estate vineyards are 100 percent biodynamic and organic certified while the winery is also Sustainable Winegrowing Australia certified.

Wirra Wirra Church Block 2021 has just been named in UK wine scribe Matthew Jukes’ 100 Best Australian Wines. Jukes wrote, “…one of the most important, skilfully blended, heritage-soaked red wines on earth.”
