The Australian Wine Research Institute (AWRI) has been nominated for the Wine Enthusiast 2024 Wine Star Award for Innovator of the Year.
Yalumba’s Louisa Rose has been nominated for Winemaker of the Year in the same awards.
Dr Mark Krstic, managing director of the AWRI, says the recognition reflects nearly seven decades of pioneering research and unwavering support for Australia’s grape and wine industry.
“Since its inception, AWRI has applied its deep expertise to address the evolving needs of the wine sector, delivering research and services that have made a tangible impact on industry,” he says.
He says the nomination is testament to the AWRI’s commitment to innovation and excellence.
“We are immensely proud of our rich history as Australia’s own research organisation for the grape and wine industry,” says Dr Krstic.
“As we near our 70-year milestone, this nomination is not just a recognition of our past achievements, but also an encouragement to continue evolving and driving the future success of the industry.”
Wine Enthusiast magazine says of the AWRI, “In an age when the climate and weather are increasingly unpredictable, it can be difficult to find a trusted information source.
“And for winemakers, it’s vital they have the correct data as decisions they make about what to plant or how to farm will have implications for decades to come.
“The Australian Wine Research Institute has established itself as a trusted resource for winemakers all over the world and has been instrumental in facing the challenges climate presents today [for instance, they helped West Coast winemakers – in the USA – get ahead of the curve with smoke taint due to wildfires].”
Dr Krstic adds, “At the AWRI, we are more than just a research organisation; we are a trusted and dependable partner to industry.
“Our knowledge is not just theoretical; it is applied to create real-world benefits for the sector we serve.”
The AWRI’s nomination for the 2024 Wine Star Award for Innovator of the Year highlights its ongoing efforts to remain at the forefront of scientific advancement, ensuring that Australia’s grape and wine industry continues to shine on the global stage.
The 2024 Wine Star Award winners will be announced later this year.
