Seppeltsfield has published a book to commemorate the 175th anniversary of the world-famous Barossa Valley estate.

It is not just any old book.

It is one of the best – and most beautifully written and presented – books ever published in the history of Australian wine.

This imposing 218-page large-format book – in keeping with the epic nature of Seppeltsfield and its storied history going back to 1851 – was written by Andrew Caillard MW.

Seppeltsfield has also released a new wine to mark the occasion – Legendary Sparkling Shiraz.

It is a nod to proprietor Warren Randall’s sparkling winemaking days at Seppelt Great Western.

“As Seppeltsfield celebrates its dodransbicentennial (175th) birthday, it stands proud as the most beautiful wine estate ever built in Australia,” Warren writes in the book.

“It is an icon and jewel in the crown of the Australian wine industry – a monument and symbol to the dreams, vision, hard work and sustained persistence of human endeavour, of those who emigrated to a foreign land in 1849.

“The Seppelt family deserve the highest praise and accolades for building a genuine Australian legacy.

“As Champagne-maker at Seppelt Great Western, having worked for the family from 1982 to 1985, I felt the family’s passion and commitment firsthand.

“It rubbed off on me. I felt their pain when the fifth generation sold to their corporate buyer, SA Brewing, in 1985.

“Forward 24 years to 2009, and I was offered an extraordinary opportunity to purchase the Seppelt’s family headquarters and jewel in the Barossa Valley, Seppeltsfield.

“What an extraordinary moment in time when I look over as the first ever non-Seppelt managing director on Monday 3 August 2009.

“I felt an enormous sense of humble pride and respect for all of the previous generations that had made Seppeltsfield the icon it is.

“I vowed and declared that I would make Seppeltsfield great again. That ‘greatness’ is still a work in progress and is probably never complete at an estate like Seppeltsfield.

“As her current custodian, if I can leave her in a better place than I found her, then I have done my job in her storied history.

“She has been my pride and pleasure.”

The Seppeltsfield 175th Anniversary Book is $175 and available here.
