It is impossible for winemaker John Hughes to simply pop down to the local Barossa supermarket or grab a quick bite down Tanunda’s main drag.
His affable nature and love of a good old chin wag means everyone wants a piece of him.
Even tourists stop to say hello.
Most recognise him from his appearance as a contestant on MasterChef during the reality television show’s 2011 season.
When the cooking competition catapulted John into the national spotlight, it was a baptism of fire.
“Pre-MasterChef I was very introverted,” John says.
“I was scared about how they would portray my story.”
