Santa just arrived in Balhannah in the Adelaide Hills with two boxes of Wendouree.
Tis the real season to be jolly!
Do you have your Wendouree yet? Is it your first stash after waiting so long on the list?
What do you do when the postie knocks on the door?
Do you act real cool and sign for the precious cargo from Clare and then close the door and carry on like a lunatic?
Do you kiss and cuddle your Wendouree?
Do you kick the puppy dog out of bed and sleep with the Wendouree instead?
Do you take it on the ferris wheel at the Royal Adelaide Show with you?
In South Australia, Wendouree is a status symbol like RM William’s boots, going to the Test match at Adelaide Oval and not seeing a single ball bowled, and drinking Rockford Basket Press on Christmas Day.
Do you walk up and down Rundle Mall with a carton of Wendouree under each arm like Leo Wanker just to let all the doctors, lawyers and accountants in the CBD know you’re on the mailing list?
The Week That Was wants to find the longest-serving Wendouree customer.
We would ask Lita and Tony from Wendouree, but they don’t have an email address.
We would check their website, but they don’t have one.
We would post a letter, but stamps are $1.70 these days.
To order some Wendouree you have to mail the original paper form to the Clare Post Office.
And then cross your fingers and try to concentrate at work for two or three weeks.
Which is all part of the romance; why we all love this precious family enterprise so much.
Can you resist trying a bottle of Wendouree within hours of receiving it?
I can’t even bring myself to throw out the beautiful branded cardboard boxes let alone actually open a bottle.
And yes, those sturdy cartons are fastened with large copper staples.
Stop staring at the boxes and email [email protected] with your best Wendouree story.
Never underestimate the joy wine can bring to people.
Savour the authenticity and integrity of Wendouree.
And when the excitement dies down and the house returns to normal and the puppy is allowed back in the bed again – don’t forget to drink it.
