Bleasdale in Langhorne Creek has launched a new wine range called Stories featuring Fiano, Verdelho, Grenache, Cabernet Franc, Mourvèdre and Montepulciano.
The winery says those varieties – made in small batches – were chosen for their vibrancy, texture and ability to express “a contemporary side of Langhorne Creek”.
“With Stories, we have given these varieties the spotlight as single-varietal wines, crafted in a bright, contemporary yet textural style,” head winemaker Nicole Brasier said.
“Techniques including whole-bunch fermentation, concrete amphora and Austrian oak have been used to create distinctive wines that offer a fresh interpretation of these varieties while remaining true to their regional character.
“These wines are made to enjoy now.”
This isn’t the first time that Bleasdale has been at the forefront of emerging varietals.
In the late 1800s Bleasdale was among the first in Australia to plant Malbec, a variety it is now famous for.
The bright colourful labels take their inspiration from the red gum blossom.
Bleasdale’s connection to red gum spans nearly two centuries.
When first generation Frank Potts happened upon this location, it was the red gums that drew him for its versatile building properties.
The solid red gum wood can be seen throughout the winery in the original buildings, the old press and the large vats, still used today for the fortified wines.
The red gum blossom is the start of what grows into the majestic trees that live for centuries.
Six generations of the Potts family have taken their role as custodians of the red gums on the Bleasdale property seriously, replanting these magnificent natives and continuing the regenerative cycle throughout the region.
“The red gum blossoms that adorn the Stories labels spark joy, reminiscent of fireworks and celebrations – much like the wines inside,” Nicole said.
“The red gum blossom symbolises strength and resilience just as the wines showcase Bleasdale’s capacity to adapt to both a changing climate and evolving consumer tastes.”
The Bleasdale winery and vineyards are certified under Sustainable Winegrowing Australia, reinforcing the commitment to responsible farming and preserving the region for future generations.
The wines are $30 a bottle.
