Star winery Yarra Yering – under the direction of winemaker Sarah Crowe – won six trophies at the Yarra Valley Wine Show.
The trophy haul included: Best Other Single White Variety or Blend, Best Shiraz, Best Cabernet Blend, Best Other Red Blend, Most Successful Exhibitor and Most Successful Vineyard.
Coldstream Hills won five trophies: Coldstream Hills 2025 Beenak Chardonnay won Best Single Vineyard Chardonnay, Best Chardonnay, Best White Wine of Show and the James Halliday Wine of Show trophy.
The winery also received the Dr Tony Jordan Best Sparkling Wine trophy for its Coldstream Hills 2018 Sparkling.
The show introduced two new classes, separating Chardonnay and Pinot Noir into Single Vineyard and Non-Single Vineyard categories, providing greater recognition of the distinct character and provenance of the region’s wines.
Chair of judges Kerri Thompson said, “What really stood out this year was the overall quality and consistency across the classes.
“Just as exciting was the diversity of varieties and styles being celebrated.
“As judges, that diversity makes the process enormously rewarding and gives us a wonderful snapshot of the energy, confidence and creativity within the Yarra Valley right now.”
The trophy winners were celebrated at a presentation evening attended by 120 guests at the Eva and Marc Besen Centre at TarraWarra.
The coveted Dr Bailey Carrodus Memorial Perpetual Wine of Provenance Trophy was awarded to Yeringberg.
The trophy celebrates the consistency and longevity of a wine label across a minimum eight-year span.
Yeringberg was recognised for its Cabernet blend represented by the 2015, 2019 and 2024 vintages.
The 2026 presentation evening also recognised an outstanding contribution to the region’s wine industry, with Wine Yarra Valley inducting Rob Sutherland, viticulturist and vineyard manager at De Bortoli Wines, into the Yarra Valley Hall of Fame.
The induction acknowledges Sutherland’s more than 20-year career and his significant contribution to the local wine industry.
The wines were judged over two days at Seville Estate on August 11-12.
More than 300 entries were assessed across 13 classes, with 13 percent awarded gold medals, 24 percent silver medals and 32 percent bronze medals.
