Evans & Tate 2021 Redbrook Estate Chardonnay from Western Australia has won the Tucker Seabrook Perpetual Trophy for Best Wine of Show at the 2023 Sydney Royal Wine Show.

Western Australia picked up six trophies in total at the show.

The Len Evans Memorial Perpetual Trophy for Best Single Vineyard Wine was won by Giant Steps 2022 Applejack Vineyard Pinot Noir.

Chair of judges Sarah Crowe noted the resurgence of Grenache and the growth of red blends and “international styles”.

“For example, Tempranillo delivered an eight percent gold medal rating closely followed by Grenache at 7.5 percent,” she says.

“Grenache dominant blends scored a nine percent gold medal rating.

“In addition, two of our trophies this year are a Grenache Shiraz Mataro blend and one a Grenache Shiraz Mourvèdre.”
